scriibble, a blog based website for users to share and appreciate the art of writing.
Scriibble is an independent project I worked on through a desire to expand my experience designing websites. The idea for scriibble is that it would act as a blog style site in which users can share their written stories and read other user’s stories as well. Scriibble would provide the user with prompts for different writing styles if they were looking for inspiration, although users still have the freedom to write about whatever they wish. The idea for this website came to me through my own personal love of reading and writing, and noticing a definite lack of similar concepts currently on the market.
“How might we make writing more community based and aid in encouraging the act of creative writing?”
This How Might We statement helped me better narrow down on features to focus on for scriibble. I wanted the website to have a community centered feeling to the user where they would be able to find writing inspiration, make online pals, or receive constructive criticism on their pieces. I also wanted to include daily writing challenges and a page where the user can find writing prompts by genre in case they find themselves with writer’s block.
For the design, I wanted to stray away from the typical white background, cut and dried website. I choose to use a textured style background with imagery on the landing page to create curiosity and excitement for potential users. For the color scheme, I used mainly blue tones to evoke a sense of serenity and included orange for contrast on important features for the website such as for the Publish and Follow button.
Main features for the website is the homepage, where a user would see a feed of published stories related to topics of interest they select during the survey. There is also a discover page where a user would find prompts for any genre of writing they select, as well as the ability to see trending stories other users have published. There will also be an inbox page where users will be able to read and reply to direct messages from other users, and finally, a notification button that would alert users whenever a publication of theirs receives a comment or like.
